Minutes of the October 8, 2007 Meeting of Castro NERT ----------------------------------------------------- Present: Jane, Janet, Fred, Dan, Michelle (presiding), Greg, Ron. Our new Google Group, CastroNERT, is up and running. Anyone may join by going in their browser to http://groups.google.com/group/castronert 14 have done so to date. In-person meetings shall continue to be at 7:00 pm on the second Monday of each month. Which meeting room shall we use? We could continue to use the Castro Community Meeting Room (CCMR) above the B. of A. for $25 each time. To schedule this room, call Lion Barnett 865-5266 and pick up the key from Patrick at Auto Erotica. The problem is that the downstairs door is locked, so late-comers can't get in. Alternative rooms include those at Davies Hospital, the meeting room at Eureka Valley Recreational Center (EVRC) which is available only on Thursdays and those are usually already claimed by others, the "Magnet" room on 18th St. a few doors up from Walgreens. Consensus: continue for now at CCMR. Planning for the NERT drill this weekend: - It will be at Holly Park in Bernal Heights at 9:00 am on Saturday, Oct. 13. - The most valuable part will be reviewing procedures for setting up an incident command center (9-10:30). - Following this, we'll deal with some simulated incidents (10:30-noon) in which we'll pretend to turn off building gas supplies, use our "earthquake eyes", etc. - At noon there will be a barbecue, to which non-NERT-trained folks are welcome. - We are responsible for bringing coffee. - Bring your NERT helmet, vest, reference manual, worksheets, radios, etc. - How shall we promote this event? Call your NERT-trained neighbors! Also, list it on the Google Group (done). At our next meeting, we'll discuss the drill -- what went well, what needs work. We'll also consider planning some local emergency preparedness event, perhaps involving local merchants, etc. The emergency supplies kit provided by Homeland Security will be located at 25th and Church (not very accessible to us here in the Castro). There is a meeting each quarter of NERT leaders. Anyone may attend. Perhaps some of us should do this.
