Whether or not I succeed in convincing people, this is the main thrust of the course I teach on Client/Server Concepts. That is, C/S is a strategy aimed largely at reducing the cost of developing and maintaining software. How does it do this? Take the course and find out! In a nutshell, the arguments are: - modularity (which is nothing new, but here is a *consistent* strategy, not just ad hoc per the whim (and genius) of individual programmers) - reusable software components - move the complexity out of the applications (where expensive resources are required for their maintenance) and into the infrastructure (which can be maintained in a routine way, at lower cost) - etc. etc. Anyway, thanks for raising interesting polemics, Joe. (We've come to expect this from you!) As ever, dsk
